Snow White Reboots
Two reboots of the Snow White fairytale are set to release this year. And if the trailers are any indication, they couldn’t be more different.
Mirror Mirror (starring Julia Roberts) released yesterday, and while it’s a light-hearted comedic romp, Snow White and the Huntsman (starring Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart) has a darker, more epic feel to it.ย
Check out both trailers below. Which one would you rather see? Although Mirror Mirror looks fun, Snow White and the Huntsman is more my taste when it comes to bringing a fairytale to life. I like to see it as it might have been if the fairytale truly could play out in our world.

Well, after seeing the previews they both look really good. I think I’ll see them both. I like the idea of the comedy where Snow White becomes strong and fights for herself. And the other one looks fun in a different way. Plus I love Charlize, so I’m sure she’ll be good.

Charlize Theron is a talented actress. I think she’s a perfect choice for the Queen. She’s beautiful, but she can do dark. I’ll admit I was disappointed in Kristen Stewart as the choice to play alongside her though. I’m concerned her Snow White is going to come across as just another version of Bella Swann.

I was just about to say something similar, Marcy! I respect Charlize Theron for her acting skills and for taking roles she believes in and passing on those she doesn’tโeven if that particular role seems hugely profitable. (I’ve heard her speak about it in interviews. :)) I also dig Julia Roberts.
I would have loved to see another actress in Snow White’s role, too. Maybe Jennifer Lawrence? She was incredible in Winter’s Bone.
Hmm… Maybe we should help cast the next mirror feature! ๐

Jennifer Lawrence would have been a much better choice. She was really good as Raven/Mystique in X-Men: First Class. She was probably busy with The Hunger Games though. Still, I think you’re right. We should be called to help with the casting next time ๐

Gaah! Do I have to choose? Oh, wait. No. I don’t.
But–true confession time–I’ll likely catch both when they release for viewing from the comfort of my own family room, where popcorn is cheap and the pause button works for nature calls.

That’s how I plan to watch Mirror, Mirror too. I think my husband and I will likely see Snow White and the Huntsman in theaters. We have a bunch of movie gift cards we were given, and they work for the concession stand too. No use letting them go to waste, eh? ๐

So, I’ve been keeping up with both of these movies since I heard they were coming out. I LOVE Julia Roberts, but I just don’t like the feel of Mirror, Mirror. It feels like Alice in Wonderland (which I loved) with just a little too much silly. I don’t know, maybe it’ll be better than that. I probably won’t see it.
BUT, I think SWATH looks amazing. I’m not a KStew fangirl by any means, but I think she’s going to do a good job. I was also scared when I heard that she was cast, but I think she knows the pressure she has on her to perform differently/better than in Twilight. I’m really hoping she’ll come through. (Plus, I think Charlize said she did a phenomenal job? That counts for something.) I definitely love the action packed, darker feel of SWATH. I’ll be seeing this one.
Sorry for the mini essay. I was really excited when I saw this post of yours and just had to share my thoughts!

Hmm, I hadn’t heard that Charlize said she did a phenomenal job. That’s enough for me to at least go in with an open mind.
I love that you wrote a mini-essay! I’m super excited about SWATH, and it’s so much fun for me to get to chat about it.

I have been looking forward to both of these movies ever since I heard they were being made!! So excited for BOTH!

I find it super exciting that the fairytale remakes and fantasy movies just keep coming. I hope it last for awhile because I’m in heaven ๐

Hmm, first thought was I’d see Mirror Mirror – I like the snarky lines and general fun, and I don’t like really dark movies. I’m a Once Upon a Time Fan, but not Grimm. On the other hand, I love a good adventure movie, especially on the big screen, so we may see both. May also wait until they’re on DVD – we don’t spend a lot of money on movies, and Hunger Games is high on my list right now.

Mirror, Mirror doesn’t appeal to me. But I think I will check out SW & TH. The tone appeals to me and I’m going to hope that Kristen Stewart will do it justice. **fingers crossed.**
