The Secrets of Spiderman Revealed
My earliest introduction to superheroes came through the Saturday morning cartoon Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends in the late 1980s. I looked forward to each episode where college students Peter Parker (Spiderman), Bobby Drake (Iceman), and Angelica Jones (Firestar) came together to fight villains and save the world (or at least the city). I dreamed of being Firestar because I wanted to be able to fly and warm up a mug of hot chocolate with only my hands.
So with my childhood love of Spiderman and His Amazing Friends, you can image how excited I was to learn about the Spiderman prequel aptly named The Amazing Spiderman set to release on July 3. Normally I would have been hesitant considering the Spiderman trilogy of movies starring Toby Maguire went into a death spiral as the series went on, but this new edition looks like it’s going to be a little dark, a little funny, and who can resist an actor who does his own stunts because he used to be a gymnast.
But the biggest draw might be the promise to delve into Spiderman’s backstory, revealing some of the secrets behind what happened to his parents.
What was your favorite childhood cartoon?

I had forgotten about this cartoon! Thanks for reminding me. It was one of my favorites. I also loved He-Man and She-Ra, Thundercats, and Captain Planet. I’m a sucker for super heros. ๐

I’m having a hard time selling my husband on it because he so disliked the other Spiderman movies with Toby Maguire, but I’ve finally convinced him that this one will be better. It looks a bit darker, which I think will be good for it too.

Strong woman role model in cartoons!

Thundercats! But I loved the 1967 cartoon version of Spiderman when I was a kid. Can still sing the whole theme song too! Because Hub is such a huge comic geek, we’ll be seeing the newest cinematic incarnation in the theater, in 3D. The Works! Have to say, the reason I loved Spiderman so was because he was a total smartass. They seem to have brought that to the new movie too. Can’t wait to see it!

From what I’ve read this won’t really tie into the other movies. The studio couldn’t get a script they liked for Spider-Man 4, so they opted for a reboot.
I’m used to this from reading comics because it’s rare to have the same creative team stay on any one book long term. And even though the stories are supposed to connect, you really don’t need to know anything that came before it. It’s just the current writer’s take on the character.
Fine by me!
I’ll watch all the Spider-Man Hollywood will make.

I didn’t get excited about this movie until recently. But this reboot looks really promising. I am excited to see it.
I remember Spider-Man from my childhood. Like Serena, I still recall the song with fondness. I also remember watching Space Ghost, Tarzan, and Speed Racer.
When I was a kid my father’s 7-11 store held a promotion for Spider-Man. When it was finished he brought home the life sized cardboard Spider-Man and I hung him in my window for the longest time. He was positioned like he was swinging between buildings. It used to freak my neighbors out at night because it looked like there was a man in my room.

The trailer looks amazing. This is the first time I saw it so thanks for sharing. I only recently heard of the whole movie. But if they do it as well as the Batman reboot, I’ll be a happy camper.
I only read girly comics as a kid but I loved He-Man and Spiderman animated TV series.

Thanks Marcy. I had no idea another Spiderman movie was due out. And no Toby McGuire this time. A new spiderman.
Favorite cartoons. Saturday morning was filled with them. I don’t know if I can pick a favorite.
But now I’m looking forward to Spiderman, thanks to you! :0

Marcy, I love Spider-Man! I haven’t had had a chance to see the movie yet (such torture). I had the biggest crush on Peter Parker in high school when my brother gave me a subscription to Amazing Spider-Man. Thanks for sharing the trailer. It’s just teasing me. ๐

I haven’t had a chance to see it yet either. My husband and I are hoping to go Monday. I used to watch Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends every Saturday as a kid, so I knew when I saw the trailer for this movie, I was going to have to go ๐
