Are Cellos and Star Wars the Next Peanut Butter and Jelly?
I love when someone is able to bring together two of my favorite things—in this case, science fiction and music.
This play on Star Wars is called Cello Wars. Even if you’re not a Star Wars fan, this video is fun to watch.
Some great music has actually come out of science fiction and fantasy movies.
Was there a movie (it doesn’t have to be SF/F) that surprised you with its great musical score?

Not necessarily surprising, but I was delighted to hear Howard Shore’s score for the Lord of the Rings movies, especially the first. I rarely listen to soundtracks; they’re usually so tied to the visuals that they don’t move me as music alone. Shore’s score is one of the exceptions.

I’m less fond of soundtracks than my husband is, but I have a few that I really love. Lord of the Rings is on my list, as is the soundtrack for the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica.

I love using movie soundtrack/scores to inspire writing. If music has words, I just sing it, so I have to listen to stuff that doesn’t have words. Movie soundtracks provide a backdrop for whatever emotion I’m trying to invoke in the scene. I still say the soundtrack/music to Harry Potter is awesome and never got the recognition it deserved. It’s now so iconic, you know exactly what movie it refers to…just like the Star Wars music.
Loved the video! Especially the end hehe “you will like this video…you will annoy your friends with constant posting of this video on Facebook”

Ha! This is awesome! I just wrote a fiction piece about the double bass last night. It started as a cello then I changed it to the double bass. For some reason I thought that funny when I saw your post today.
We love musical scores in my household. Always have. Since my son was very young he has be in love with movie scores and can repeat them in perfect clarity without flaw. It’s so funny, but cool. In contrast, my daughter listens to the Barbie soundtrack. LOL.

Will we be getting to see the piece featuring the double bass anytime soon?

That was an amazing video with some cool surprises.
And he’s right (at the end) I do want to go take cello lessons now.

It made me want to pull my violin out of its case even though I haven’t played it in years!

This is awesome. My daughter and I watched it before school this morning, and I’ve been thinking about it all day.
Love it!

I love when someone can make playing an instrument seem cool 😀

Hilarious video. I was compelled to share it too 😀
I love movie soundtracks, especially those composed by Thomas Newman. He has created the scores for movies like American Beauty, Meet Joe Black, WALL-E and Skyfall. LoTR Soundtracks are classics and I really like Pirate of the Carribbeans and Harry Potters too.
